Gaming Thoughts | HKIA: Wheatflour Wonderland

Console gamers finally got a DLC for Hello Kitty Island Adventure this early Fall.

While we still don’t have access to City Town, we do now have Wheatflour Wonderland. A map that is spread out and expansive, featuring new materials to gather, new critters to catch, various puzzle arches and 3 new mini games. That will be the bane of your existence as well as your saved up gaming tickets.

There are a few things I like and don’t like about the Wheatflour Wonderland expansion. While unlocking a new area on any game is exciting for someone like me, who is driven by crafting materials and catching critters, there is a bit to be desired from this expansion. Maybe I expected it to be as cool as City Town? I’m not sure. I do hope they release it for console some day, trying to build my HKIA file from Apple Arcade is not as fun as playing it on PC, the quests are so much more annoying to do on a screen. How people managed to do the flowers and stuff on it is beyond me, but ya’ll are some dedicated people for that.

The Cool Things;

  • The area is gorgeous.
  • The color palettes, the themes, the fact that owls pretty much run everything (helpful or not).
  • The map literally grows as you progress.
  • The already grown fields of Wheatflour!
  • Collecting gemstones, really, need I say more?
  • The cutest little freakin critters in the game.
  • Critter wands.
  • Ebi Fry.
  • The mini games.
  • The new recipes!

The Not So Cool Things;

  • Don’t hate me, but I am not a fan of Cogimyun, she’s a bit… weird. However the way she “falls apart” is always funny to me.
  • After breaking the protective orbs that the owls speak of, there’s really no other reason why they’re there.
  • The quests for this area are also a bit… questionable.
  • Jump challenges. That’s it. That’s the whole thought.
  • There isn’t a new shop or anywhere to trade for items.
  • Finding Opals is literally the worst.

I think I’ve finally uncovered all tiers to the land but I’m not exactly sure since my brain can’t seem to fully comprehend how they actually work lol. Leveling Cogimyun is at least a bit easier than leveling Wish me mell (who I still have not reached max level with). But having to use all my friendship flowers for it sucks esp since there isn’t a sure way to get more, it’s just up to My Melody to gift them to you.

I am excited to see what other events unfold here and I do still have a few critters I have not came across just yet — most of the things I haven’t reached is due to the fact that Opal gems are almost impossible to find after the first or second day. Some say to just burn all your game tickets on the mini games and hope they offer an Opal as a prize which makes me wonder, is finding them in the wild not a thing anymore?

Judging by how new the expansion itself is, I guess time will tell.

Did you get in on this expansion? What are your thoughts?
