Gaming Thoughts | Aniimo

Just a preface;

I didn’t grow up playing Pokemon or paying attention to it. I mean I watched it and I played the games to some extent (until my husband would take over) so my knowledge of types and their weakness is beyond me. I’m a cozy gamer, the less thinking (usually) the better. With that said, I don’t always know what types are weaker to others when it comes to this game. I treat it a bit like Palworld where I’m just here to catch shit ya’ll.

I am lucky enough to make it into the closed beta this time and I am so excited to experience this game (the downside however is that the release date isn’t until summer of 2026 which feels like forever from now)! It’s absolutely adorable. If you played Palworld then you’d be a bit familiar with how this game works. However there are so many other options when it comes to… well, everything. And if you’re familiar with Pokemon then I’m sure this game would be much easier for you in terms of attacking, leveling and catching.

My initial thoughts;

I’m enjoying this game and I’m hoping that there will be more customized options for creating our characters. The beta itself gives you a lot to work with. I spent so much time on my character creation and exploring the options. Granted we’re left with like 3 basic looks at the moment but there seems to be a lot of room for additional options in the future.

There are so many different types of Aniimo’s to catch and so many different versions. My completionist heart is so full. And also so anxious — but in times like these it’s a good kind of anxious, at least. For example, the sheepies up there? There’s normal ones, there’s the gold one and there’s thundercloud ones which is exactly what it sounds like. Like, what?! How? SO CUTE?! Aniimo is one of those games that keeps pulling real, unfiltered reactions out of me — which makes it frustrating that I can’t always capture that live when I stream due to my mic being off the majority of time because… background noise (aka kids). I could just do voice overs but I feel like it doesn’t catch my real time reactions to things.

Aniimo is the type of game that hits that sweet spot between cozy and chaos, where my brain is buzzing but in a way that feels playful instead of overwhelming. Where the idle hobbies and emotions of these Aniimo’s in the wild does something that causes your nervous system to just relax for a minute. Seeing them interact with each other is the cutest. Not to mention that your own Aniimo tries to talk to you?! Like, what hint are you trying to give me right now?! It’s literally the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in a game. And it hits in a way that would make you super easy to get attached to these adorable creatures.

I will say that the photo taking option is insane. I’m not able to take screenshots of everything while in the beta like my turn in results or anything which kinda sucks and we’re not able to take video while in game for beta, but can we just… take a minute to just appreciate how nice the photo taking in game is?! I’m not even mad about the watermark at the top, it’s a cute touch.

Also, was a bit too excited I had caught her. How pretty is she?! As I say that about 80% of the ones I catch. This game is like if Pokemon was geared towards girls and aesthetics.

Two weeks of play time isn’t enough to really explore everything this game has to offer and trying to pack everything into that time frame while trying to figure out how to play and level is insane but regardless, I’m thankful for this chance to be able to experience this upcoming game and I am absolutely looking forward to its release!

For a free to play game, Aniimo already feels generous — and if this is what the beta looks like, I’m excited (and slightly afraid) of how much space this game might take up in my brain (and how much of a dent it will put in my bank account if there is a cash shop) once it fully launches.
